A chilce is a traditional women’s head ornament typical of the Hutsul ethnic group of Ukrainians and some other Slavic peoples. It is worn above the forehead and is an integral part of Hutsul wedding dress, and is also worn by girls during festive occasions.
The chilce is widespread among Hutsuls, and many researchers believe that the tradition of wearing it dates back to the princely era, when Byzantine fashion was popular in Ukraine. The Hutsul headdress not only emphasises the beauty and elegance of the craft of local craftsmen, but also symbolises pride in the rich cultural heritage.
